We will establish multimodal means of transport, build Enugu ring road – Peter Mbah
The Enugu State gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has said that his administration will pursue a multimodal means of transportation.
Mbah, who made this known during the unveiling of his campaign manifesto on Thursday at the Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, said the planned multimodal transport system will incorporate light rail, tram and inland waterway services to complement the existing road transportation.
He explained that Enugu has coastal land in Ogurugu in Uzo-Uwani council area from where passengers and goods could be moved to Onitsha and Kogi State through the River Niger.
He further assured that his administration will collaborate with the federal government and private investors to resuscitate rail transport across Enugu State and link the state with other states in the South East geopolitical zone.
Speaking on the existing road transport system, Mbah promised to modernize roads in line with global best practices and facilitate the acquisition of modern buses and construction of modern bus terminals to ease mass transportation across the state.
The governorship candidate said in the long term, Enugu will be a hub for the manufacturing and assembly of vehicles through the Enugu Automotive Initiative and the establishment of an Automotive City in partnership with foreign automakers
‘’We shall also collaborate with the federal government and private investors to resuscitate rail transportation across Enugu State and link the state with other states in the South East geopolitical zone”, he said.
Mbah also said his administration will build a modern Enugu ring road connecting the various local governments, agro processing zones and industrial areas to be engendered under his administration, saying a total of 10,000 kilometers of road was being targeted for construction and rehabilitation.
