There was mild drama and embarrassment on Sunday among chieftains and supporters of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Hon. Uchenna Nnaji, as he suddenly collapsed at a meeting and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Abuja where he is presently responding to treatment.
According to eyewitnesses who were at the stakeholders meeting in Abuja, Hon. Nnaji, who was addressing the gathering collapsed immediately his attention was drawn to the news making the rounds that the Chief Executive Officer of the Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, had a successful meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, Abuja.
A stakeholder who had travelled to Abuja with Hon. Nnaji for the meeting, while blaming the personal assistant to the APC governorship candidate, Hon. Edeh Christian Chibuike, for the avoidable embarrassment, said news and pictures of President Buhari with Dr. Mbah were hurriedly disclosed to Nnaji which led to his collapse.
“Chibuike knew his principal, Hon. Nnaji, has been battling with acute high blood pressure and ought not to have triggered it. Moreover, he knew that the meeting was a public one, and it was wrong of him to call his attention to that news. The news of Buhari smiling with Mbah is ill-fated. The pictures are ill-fated. The truth is that we were not happy when we saw President Muhammadu Buhari, the leader and father of our great party, APC, commending Peter Mbah, pouring praises on him and calling him the best among the best.
“This is a minus for our party in Enugu State. We are really demoralized seeing the president having warm handshake with a PDP governorship candidate. This has already sealed the victory of the PDP in the state. Anyway, the APC will arrange on how to visit the president and have our own handshake.
“On my friend’s health issues; even though I have personally advised Uche to quit taking cocaine and other hard drugs because of his bad health, he has refused to yield to advice. You know, if you an incurable disease like high blood pressure, you have to quit smoking, quit taking drugs, and avoid other unhealthy lifestyle,” he said.
Earlier, President Buhari had commended Mbah for his enterprising spirit, describing him as a distinguished citizen Nigerians are proud to identify with. He commended Mbah’s peerless leadership in the private sector where thousands of jobs had been created by him.
