Breaking: “I will withdraw my case from tribunal if good compromise is reached” – LP guber candidate, Edeoga assures

… says Chief of Staff position befits current political status

The Labour Party guber candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga has agreed to withdraw his case from the Enugu State governorship tribunal only if a good compromise is reached between him and Enugu State governor-elect, Peter Mbah.

Mr. Edeoga who said this in an interview with our correspondents today, maintained that calls from religious leaders, traditional leaders and other well-meaning Enugu citizens both within and outside the country have made him to think twice for the sake of peace and progress in the state, stating that politics is all about interest, therefore, can only lay the legal fireworks to rest if he will be given the position of Chief of Staff Enugu State government which is a befitting position for his current status.

He maintained that his coming to contest for the number one position of the state is because he needs to effect changes in all areas and sectors of the state, maintaining that if being placed in a position where his inputs will be counted, he is ready to forsake that ambition and give a helping hand to the governor-elect to move the state forward in line with his social contract with Ndi Enugu.

“It mustn’t be me, no one says I must be governor but the passion to make Enugu State a better place to be and change the narrative spurred me into contesting for the position of chief executive of the state.

“Sometime in May 2022, if you can recall, I made a promise to assist Peter Mbah in all ramification to making sure that Enugu State becomes the best among all the states in Nigeria, but something happened along the line and I ported to Labour Party. But as it is today, I have been having series of meetings with some notable politicians from South East, Enugu and even PDP national headquarters to reach a comprise, and join Peter in making the future of our youths brighter, but I Chijioke Edeoga would not accede to that request unless a position where my opinions will be taken is being giving to me and an agreement to that effect will be drafted and signed before I will make any move to withdraw the case from the tribunal. Of course you know I have a strong case over him but let me not preempt the court,” the guber candidate said.

Meanwhile, when asked about the certificate forgery allegation on the governor-elect, Mr. Edeoga said he was not going to discuss a case that is already in court as it will amount to contempt of court, saying that the information in the public space has it that the governor-elect has dragged the NYSC to court, claiming N20B damages.

We should recall also that last week, Labour Party Chairman in Enugu State, Casmir Agbo was on Urban FM in an On-Air program where he stated that if a good compromise is reached between PDP and his Party, they will withdraw the case from tribunal for the sake of peace and progress of the society, stating that all hands must be on deck for Enugu State to be great and that can only be achieved if the governor-elect is willing to reach a good compromise and carry everyone along in his appointments.
